The Friend introduced me to this composer and I loved him instantly.

What I personally find special about Schnittke, is the tepid feeling the music of his later period gives. Even if sad, melancholic or humorous, it’s not hysterical, although there are many of his avant-garde compositions – totally different story. But the classical ones, they are nothing like my usual state of mind. They are calm. They’re like a sedative to me in the mornings on the way to work.
